Rolls-Royce's 'Year of the Dragon' Bespoke commissions include three Phantom Extended models and one Cullinan, each a masterpiece in itself. In contrast, Vespa introduces the Vespa 946 Dragon, a two-wheeler that pays homage to the dragon with a more accessible production of 1,888 units.
The term "hand-crafted" resonates deeply in the creation of these special editions, emphasizing the meticulous attention to detail, though perhaps more fittingly with the Rolls-Royce. The Rolls-Royce dragon limos feature hand-painted, multi-layer dragon artworks on the fascia panels, a labor-intensive process taking two weeks for each piece. The Phoenix Red embroidery on the headrests involves 5,449 stitches, crafted with precision over 20 hours.
Vespa's 946 Dragon, while less elaborate, showcases special attention to detail. The scooter comes accompanied by a Dragon Varsity Jacket, featuring ribbed wool, nappa leather sleeves, and dragon motifs in emerald green. The jacket's front panel displays the English translation of an ancient Chinese proverb about a dragon consuming many little snakes.
Not to be outdone, Rolls-Royce Bespoke designers exhibit dragon detailing in the custom coachline, where the dragon motif faces east to symbolize the British-Chinese dragon's cultural significance. Inside the dragon limos, the Starlight Headliner creates a celestial dragon dance with 677 individually-placed fiber-optic "stars" forming an abstract dragon motif, surrounded by 667 additional "starlights."
